Vacation Rental Controversy in Jerome

In 2012 the current owner applied for and obtained all necessary permits from the Town of Jerome. This included all necessary Building Department, Fire Department, Planning Department, and Design Review Board permits for the restoration project. After the building was completed, the Town of Jerome issued business licenses stating acceptance of operating as a Residential Rental. In 2013 a new Jerome Town Council and the Planning Department tried to ban vacation rentals in Jerome completely. After multiple meetings with Town officials seeking to be grandfathered in as an existing officially sanctioned licensed business, the Town Council refused to allow us to continue functioning. At that time the Goldwater Institute stepped in and represented our case, which ultimately led to a change in Arizona State law in 2013 that prohibited any towns or cities in the state from banning vacation rentals.
